Degree Day

A measure of how cold a day was relative to 65°F — the foundation of automatic fuel delivery.

If the average outdoor temperature for a day is 45°F, that day produced 20 heating degree days (65 − 45). Add up the degree days over a season and you have a precise picture of how hard your heating system worked.
