Heat Exchanger

The metal core inside a furnace or boiler where combustion heat is transferred to your air or water.

If the heat exchanger fails — usually a crack — the system has to be replaced. That's why annual cleanings matter: soot, scale, and short-cycling are the enemies of a long-lived heat exchanger.
